A Choice for Living

Thereís a hole in the ozone letting ultra-violet in.
There is oil on the ocean telling us where we have been.
Thereís a fire in the jungle burning all our lungs away.
Chernobyl. Star Wars. Acid Rain. The list grows every day.

But no oneís for death or suicide.
And the blues that you donít choose you just canít hide.
And the quality of life statistics arenít giving. The time is at hand.
A choice for living.

The global plates are moving if you care to hear the sound.
In China and East Europe ancient walls are falling down.
And there are others in the world who harbor the misgiving
Of icons trusted since their birth.
A choice for living.

The choice is up to you and the choice is up to me.
And for future generations it is up to us to see that
The folly of our fathers, noble as it was back then,
Reflects the fear and hatred of the simple times and men.

The petty hatreds that we vent consuming our short lives
Binds us to an existence of blunt words and sharper knives.
If we love the planet as a child the future is forgiving.
Itís time that we woke up or died.
A choice for living.

But no oneís for death or suicide.
And the blues that you donít choose you just canít hide.
And the quality of life statistics arenít giving. The time is at hand.
A choice for living.

The governor wants power plants built in our neighborhood.
Despite the health risks and the cost.  He does it Ďcause he could.
He doesnít care about or lives.  We have to let him know that
Just like the new power plants,
Pataki has to go.

And no oneís for death or suicide.
And the blues that we donít choose we just canít hide.
And the quality of life statistics arenít giving. The time is at hand.
A choice for living.
