Dick Gregory once told me that the reason the Pentagon
had so many guards in front of it was because there was so much evil in
there to protect. It is the same reason we need names such as INFINITE
JUSTICE as banners for our killing. And it is the same reason people
can declare a HOLY WAR.
And it is the same reason there are priests in the
army when Jesus said love your enemy. Would Mohammed actually approve of
people killing in his name?
When a human demands salvation on his own terms it
has nothing to do with spirituality. Yet that is what we see here. Is it
possible to have, has there ever been, a war when God or the Great Spirit
of any assumed denomination was not present in the attacker's argument?
Is it possible to leave God out of war?
I don't think so. I once read that serial killers
often disfigure the face of their victims. This serves to dehumanize them.
Human beings have difficulty killing a person when looking them in the
face and know they can be seen as well. Cowards shoot others in the back.
Executioners once wore a mask. Today governors hire other people to kill
for infinite justice.
So we dehumanize and go about the business of
killing, but we need God to make it OK.
INFINITE JUSTICE = HOLY WAR
... and how about that phrase declaring our
intentions to use "all force necessary and appropriate"?
"All force necessary" means we will do ANYTHING.
"Appropriate"??? that was added to mislead and defend the first three
words. Just like all those guards in front of the Pentagon defending all
that evil. You see, you had to have the word "appropriate" in
there to justify the angry violence. Just like God has to be present in
our words when we go to war.
If you want to learn about people, listen to the
words they use to justify their actions. When people do it, it is
sociology and psychology. When institutions do it we call it public
relations. With more and more media owned by less and less corporate
entities, government institutions can find it easier and easier to, as
Noam Chomsky puts it, "manufacture consent."
Hearst, so the story goes, said to the photographer,
"You furnish the pictures. I'll furnish the war."
For the sake of the planet and everyone's future,
let's not let that happen.
love and strength,
